OFID-REEEP fund for Energy in LDC

OFID-REEEP fund for Energy

The Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has announced a new programme cycle made possible by the support of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). This cycle could support up to three projects that accelerate development through energy access for the poor in one or more of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

Key information for applicants

What kinds of proposals does the OFID-REEEP programme cycle seek?

Funding preference will be given to proposals that:

Address the finance and business challenges of energy access to the poor in OFID priority countries which include all Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

Have a minimum of 50% co-financing to be eligible for support.  The maximum OFID-REEEP funding per project is US$150,000.

Are income-generating and sustainable after the project's completion

Go beyond just electricity needs to address thermal and mechanical energy requirements.  In a slight departure from past REEEP practice, hardware or infrastructure can be partially supported with OFID-REEEP funding.

The full list of requirements can be found in the Call for Proposals document linked below, which we strongly urge applicants to read carefully.

Who can submit proposals?

Proposals from the following types of organisations are welcomed:

  • Financial institutions
  • Private sector entities
  • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and
  • Energy regulators

What types of proposals are not likely to attract OFID-REEEP funding?

The OFID-REEEP cycle is unlikely to fund projects:

  • that do not cover Least Developed Countries (LDCs)
  • that do not meet the conditions outlined above
  • where the majority of the requested resources are for workshops, seminars, study-tours or conferences and awareness creation/information dissemination
  • that are comprised of stand-alone analysis and research resulting in publications and reports

Important Note –

Please, do not send unsolicited emails or mail seeking funding support to donor agencies. This will discredit your NGO and can also bring bad reputation to you as an individual as well as a NGO.

Fund raising is a competitive process and you need to follow ethics and not spam donor emails with long, unrelated requests for fund / grant support. If you just keep sending emails seeking support without knowing your donor, your chances of raising funds for your NGO will be drastically reduced and you may be blacklisted as a spammer.
